FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO-KBRF)– The U.S. Department of Transportation is providing over $27.7 million for the construction of a new rest area near Fergus Falls. The Fergus Falls Vicinity Rest Area Project will design and construct a new Class I Safety Rest Area with approximately 63 parking spaces for commercial motor vehicles (CMV) and 60 for passenger vehicles. The facility will serve both directions of I-94 and will replace the Lake Iverson Rest Area that was closed due to recurring flooding. The funding is part of a $200 million investment to expand truck parking projects in 12 states. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says these investments will expand public parking for truckers along critical freight corridors and help reduce fatigue-related accidents, improve supply chain efficiency, and deliver significant savings.
