Putnam County Sheriff’s Office confirms ICE operation at Palatka school construction site

After video showed law enforcement officers detaining multiple workers Thursday at the construction site of the future Palatka Primary School, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation at the site. The incident unfolded at the former Kelley Smith Elementary School site, now under construction as the Palatka Primary School project.The Sheriff’s Office said the law enforcement presence near Round Lake Park Silver Lake was lifted Thursday afternoon following the ICE operation in which multiple people fled the construction site.According top the Sheriff’s Office, the incident began before 7:30 a.m. when a traffic stop on State Road 19 prompted several people to run from law enforcement and flee into the woods. Deputies say due to the proximity to a nearby school and the possibility that one person may have been armed, Palatka Intermediate School was placed on a modified lockdown for several hours as a precaution.By 3:30 p.m., the Sheriff’
